Personal “firmness” perception and experience vary widely, so we have attempted to provide a scale by which you can make a more informed decision. A very soft dildo which measures 1.75” wide will differ in feel from a very firm dildo which measures 1.75” wide due the amount of give the soft item will have.
What is Durometer Shore Hardness?
Shore Hardness is a measure of the firmness of a given material such as rubber, elastomer, silicone or plastic. It is measured by the depth of indentation that is created on the material with a specified force. The measuring instrument is called a Durometer. Shore Hardness is named after its inventor, Albert Shore. There are up to 12 different scales which are used throughout manufacturing. The higher the value, the harder the material.
Readings can vary quite a bit and we’ve found that even within the same product line, there can be slightly different shore readings for similar products. For this reason, we have provided a shore range from Very Soft to Very Firm. These comparisons are an attempt to give you a virtual base point when comparing one firmness to another.
Please note that this list is a work in progress and will be continuously added to and updated. These categories are suggestions only. Your perception of softness or hardness may vary based on your personal experiences.
